Canadian hot spring hosts a bizarre annual hair freezing contest

Each February in the frigid air of Canada the Takhini Hot Pools hosts an exciting competition for winter eccentrics. The annual Hair Freezing Contest is exactly what you might expect – Contestants dunk their heads under the 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius) water and then expose it to the air at a frigid -22° Fahrenheit (-30° Celsius).

The cold air quickly freezes any wet hair, which contestants are encouraged to style and manipulate as the ice crystals develop. The three Grand Prize winners of the competition are awarded $150 each. You can see this year’s three winners in the image below!
